City of Kirkland, Wash. Acknowledges Allyis for its Waste Reduction and Recycling Program Company Receives Distinction as a 'Green Business'
Monday, August 04, 2008
Allyis, a technology consulting firm based in Kirkland, Wash., has been honored by the City of Kirkland’s Green Business Program as a 'Green Business’ in the Waste Reduction and Recycling category.
In order to qualify for the sought-after distinction, companies must demonstrate a recycling rate of 50% or higher, purchase recycled office products such as copy paper and toilet paper. They also must show how they involve employees, customers, suppliers and the public in their green efforts.
In addition to recycling paper, aluminum cans and plastic bottles, Allyis offers food waste, household battery, compact fluorescent (CF) light bulb, ink jet cartridge and cell phone recycling, free of charge, to its more than 200 employees. As part of its "Greener Allyis" program the company provides each employee with a reusable water bottle to discourage the one-time use of disposable bottles and gives each employee a CF light bulb for their home, in addition to outfitting the entire office with CF bulbs. Allyis also hosted a green living seminar, which was open to employees and the public, earlier this year.
"We’re honored to be a part of the Kirkland business community and receiving this distinction from the city’s Green Business Program is testimony to Allyis’ commitment to being good corporate citizens, taking responsibility for our carbon footprint and enabling our employees to extend their personal recycling commitments to the work environment," said Kristy Law, corporate citizenship director.
Law credits the success of the "Greener Allyis" program to having 'buy-in' from upper management. Allyis executives are committed to doing their part to protect the environment as well and President Ethan Yarbrough details his creative and often humorous attempts to live greener on his personal blog: http://mynorthwestlife.blogspot.com.
